The Best Cybersecurity Podcasts for Founders, Operators and Investors

38 cybersecurity podcasts with the real date of each show's last episode, checked feed by feed on 31 July 2026, plus the one that has gone quiet.

By Alexej Pikovsky  ·  Updated

The thing I check every time, and this time it flippedSpecialist cybersecurity funds still barely podcast. Ballistic Ventures, DataTribe, Ten Eleven and SYN Ventures publish nothing under their own name, and neither does ClearSky. What changed since I last checked: Forgepoint Capital, which used to be the lone exception, has not shipped an episode of The Forgecast since November 2024. NightDragon went the other way and launched NightVision on 23 July 2026, dropping seven episodes in a single day. So the count of active fund-run shows in this space is one, and it is eight days old.

How this list was built

Every list like this one rots, and most of them rot quietly. So I did the boring part. On 31 July 2026 I pulled each show through the Apple Podcasts lookup API to get its live RSS feed, then fetched the feed itself and read the newest item's publish date. The date in the last column of every table below is that date, not a guess and not a copy from the show's about page. Thirty-nine feeds went through the check.

The cutoffs I used:

  • Active: an episode within the last three months, so on or after 30 April 2026. Thirty-five shows cleared this.
  • Slowing: last episode between three and nine months ago. Three shows. They stay in their section, flagged in the table and gathered again lower down, because a quiet feed is not a dead one.
  • Gone quiet: nothing in over nine months. One show, and it is the one I would least have predicted.

Two disclosures. I host a podcast myself, Play It Smart, where I interview founders and operators in managed IT, security and AI. It is not ranked anywhere on this list. It has its own block near the bottom and you can skip it. Second, plenty of good shows here are made by companies that sell you something, so I label every one of them as vendor-run, investor-run, MSP-run or recruiter-run in the table. That is not a warning, just context for how to weigh what you hear.

One correction worth naming, because it was live on this page until today: the Forgecast link previously pointed at an unrelated show with the same name. It now points at Forgepoint Capital's actual feed, and that feed is dead.

The short answer

If you subscribe to five, make them Inside the Network for how cyber startups get funded, Cyber Go-To-Market Talk for how security actually gets sold, Risky Business for the weekly threat intelligence read, CyberWire Daily for the news habit, and CISO Tradecraft for how security leaders think about their own job. If you want to be a guest rather than a listener, start with The Virtual CISO Podcast, Cyber Risk Management Podcast and Security Confidential.

This list covers cybersecurity. If you run a managed service provider and want shows about that business specifically, I keep a separate guide to the best MSP podcasts, checked the same way on the same day.

The business of security

Funding, go to market, pricing, category creation, and the unglamorous work of running a security company. This is the shortest section here, and that is the point: there are hundreds of shows about threats and about a dozen about the business. Nearly all of them run guest interviews.

The shows your customers are listening to

You are not here for the technical depth. You are here so that when a CISO mentions last week's episode, you know what they are talking about. Grouped by whose attention each one holds. Five of them take outside guests: CISO Tradecraft, Defense in Depth, Paul's Security Weekly, Hacker Valley Studio and Down the Security Rabbithole. The rest are news desks, solo shows or tightly formatted productions, so do not waste a pitch on them.

Shows worth appearing on

These are hosted by people running security and IT businesses rather than by media companies, which is why the conversations tend to be more concrete. Most are talking to buyers rather than to peers, so an appearance puts you in front of the people who actually sign contracts. Almost every show here runs a guest format. Pick the two or three whose audience genuinely matches your buyer and turn up with a story worth their listeners' time, rather than pitching all of them.

Publishing less often than they used to

Three shows above have gone three to nine months without an episode. They are still listed in their sections because the archives are good and none of them has formally ended, but do not build a pitch plan around them.

Gone quiet

One show on the original version of this page has been silent for more than nine months. It happens to be the one I used as evidence that at least some cyber funds podcast, which is a good reminder to check your own examples.

I host one of these too

Play It Smart is my show, where I interview founders and operators in managed IT, security and AI about how they actually build the business. It is deliberately not ranked on this page. If you host one of the podcasts above and an operator view would be useful to your listeners, whether that is MSP growth, AI search, paid acquisition or what I am seeing inside Cortavo, I would be glad to come on. I book guests for mine too, so there is often an easy swap when the audiences line up.

FAQ

What is the best cybersecurity podcast in 2026?

There is no single answer, because the audiences barely overlap. For the weekly threat intelligence read it is Risky Business. For the daily news habit it is CyberWire Daily. For how security companies get funded and sold it is Inside the Network and Cyber Go-To-Market Talk. For how a security leader thinks about the job it is CISO Tradecraft.

How do you know these shows are still publishing?

Every show was run through the Apple Podcasts lookup API on 31 July 2026 to find its live RSS feed, then the feed itself was fetched and the newest episode's publish date recorded. That date is printed next to every show. Thirty-five of the thirty-nine feeds checked had an episode in the previous three months.

Which cybersecurity podcasts accept guests?

Most of the vendor-run and operator-run shows do, including The Virtual CISO Podcast, Cyber Risk Management Podcast, Security Confidential, Secure and Simple, Cyber Security America, Climbing Mount CMMC, CMMC Compliance Guide, UnHacked, MSP Mindset and Cyber Security Cafe. From the wider list, CISO Tradecraft, Defense in Depth, Paul's Security Weekly, Hacker Valley Studio and Down the Security Rabbithole take outside guests too. The daily news shows do not.

Do cybersecurity venture funds run their own podcasts?

Almost none of them. Ballistic Ventures, DataTribe, Ten Eleven Ventures, SYN Ventures and ClearSky publish nothing under their own name. Forgepoint Capital's Forgecast stopped in November 2024. NightDragon launched NightVision on 23 July 2026, which makes it the only fund-run show currently publishing in the category.

Are vendor-run cybersecurity podcasts worth listening to?

Often yes, because the hosts are closer to the work than a media company would be. Every vendor-run, investor-run, MSP-run and recruiter-run show is labelled as such in the tables above. Read the label as context rather than a warning, and remember the show exists to keep you in that company's orbit.
