SEO consultant for MSPs, measured in signed contracts
I'm Alexej Pikovsky, a search engine optimization (SEO) marketing consultant for managed service providers (MSPs). I decide what your site should rank for in Google and artificial intelligence (AI) search, which pages to build, and how to tell whether it pays. NUOPTIMA, the agency I founded, does the work.
I'm also the fractional chief revenue officer (CRO) at Cortavo, an MSP in the United States, so I see what happens after a lead arrives.
What an MSP SEO consultant does, and how that differs from an agency
An agency does the work: technical fixes, pages, content, links and a monthly report. An MSP SEO consultant decides what that work should be and checks whether it pays. Which services and cities you target. Which pages get built first. What counts as a lead. When to stop spending.
The common failure is buying the first without the second: blog posts and a traffic chart that nobody ties to the pipeline in your customer relationship management (CRM) system.
My MSP SEO consulting starts from the sales side. Which clients do you want more of, what is one worth per month, and how many inbound leads can your team close? Search comes after that. Rankings only pay when the page, the offer and the follow-up line up, so I work on all three.

Chrysalis Tech Group, Houston
Gregory Bledsoe has run Chrysalis since 2009. NUOPTIMA's September 2026 audit found almost no non-brand search traffic. AI assistants didn't know the company, and some described a different one. The site spoke in slogans, had a healthcare page sitting at a logistics web address, and had no industry, suburb or pricing pages. The links were fine, with hundreds of referring domains.
So the problem was the site itself. NUOPTIMA rebuilt it for AI search, Google and local results, and it went live in October 2026. There are no results to report yet, and I won't guess at them.

A cybersecurity consultancy founded in 2021, selling virtual chief information security officer (vCISO) and compliance services (SOC 2, ISO 27001, PCI) on fixed monthly subscriptions. NUOPTIMA built its search engine during the scale-up phase:
- Organic traffic
- 11.6x in six months, from 66 to 446 monthly visits (Ahrefs)
- Ranking keywords
- 164 to 2,618 between May and November 2023
- Inbound leads
- Up 400%
- Outcome
- Scaled to 500+ clients and was acquired by Riveron in October 2025
Microminder Cyber Security
The cybersecurity arm of a 40-year-old technology group, selling penetration testing, cloud security and a 24/7 security operations center to governments and enterprises. NUOPTIMA started on a brand-new domain with 3 ranking keywords and 14 monthly organic visits:
- Ranking keywords
- 3 to 4,503 in 23 months, from a brand-new domain
- Organic visitors
- 14 to 5,333 a month, with 125 top-three positions by July 2024
- Leads
- Roughly 20 quality leads a month
- Revenue
- $1M+ attributed to SEO, a 16.6x return on SEO spend
My MSP SEO strategy: keywords, local search, service pages, content
Most advice on SEO for information technology (IT) companies is written for software firms selling nationally. Managed service provider SEO works differently: an MSP sells a monthly contract, usually inside a region or an industry it knows.
-
Keywords
I start from buyer intent: managed IT services in a city, IT support for a named industry, and what managed IT costs. The volumes are small, and a handful of the right clients is enough.
-
Local search
Google Business Profile, reviews, and city and suburb pages for the areas you serve. For a local MSP this is often the quickest route to a first lead.
-
Service pages
One page per service and per industry, written the way buyers search, plus a plain pricing page. Slogans don't rank.
-
Content
Comparisons, costs and the questions your sales team hears every week, each linking to the page where a buyer can act.
AI search and answer engine optimization (AEO) for MSPs
Buyers now ask ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity for a shortlist before they click a search result. Answer engine optimization (AEO) is the work of getting your MSP named and cited in those answers.
At Cortavo, NUOPTIMA tracked 224 mentions across the four assistants, 4x the closest competitor. At Chrysalis, the assistants didn't know the company, and some confused it with another business.
What moves it, in my experience: the same facts about your company everywhere (name, location, services, industries), pages that answer a question in their first two sentences, structured data, and reviews and mentions on sites the assistants already trust. Nobody can promise a citation. You can make your MSP easy to cite.
Strategy with me, execution with NUOPTIMA
I shape the strategy and judge it on pipeline. NUOPTIMA's team does the execution: technical fixes, service and location pages, content, links, AI search tracking and reporting that ties back to your CRM.
The first step is a call with NUOPTIMA about your market and what a new client is worth to you.

How long MSP SEO takes
These are the ranges I plan around, with Cortavo's timeline from May 2025 as the reference point.
- 0 to 3 months
Fixes, pages, tracking
Technical fixes, new pages and lead tracking in your CRM. Impressions move before leads do.
- 3 to 9 months
Rankings and traffic
In a typical engagement, positions and visitors start to climb. At Cortavo, organic visitors went from 261 to 10,000 a month within 9 months.
- 6 to 12 months
Contracts
Leads start turning into signed clients. Cortavo's 8 organic clients and $403,330 in contracted sales came across the first 12 months.
Weak technical foundations or a crowded metro market take longer. A site with strong links but the wrong pages can move faster once the pages are right.
Podcast and writing
I host Play It Smart, a podcast where MSP owners talk about how they actually grow. I also write about pricing, sales, AI and selling an MSP.
Questions about MSP SEO consulting
What does an SEO marketing consultant for MSPs do?
An SEO marketing consultant for MSPs decides what the website should rank for, which pages to build first and how to judge the result against signed contracts, across technical health, local search, service pages, content and AI search. An agency or in-house team does the work. In my case, NUOPTIMA does the execution.
Do I need an MSP SEO consultant or an agency?
You need both jobs done: deciding what to do and doing it. If you already have a marketer or agency, a consultant can set direction and check the numbers. If you have neither, one team covering both is simpler, which is why I shape the strategy and NUOPTIMA delivers it.
Is SEO still worth it for MSPs?
Often, yes, but not for every MSP. When an owner tells me SEO didn't work, the story is usually a cheap retainer, generic blog posts and no tracking from lead to contract. At Cortavo, $88,500 of SEO over 12 months became $403,330 in contracted sales, a 4.6x return. That is one client, not a promise. SEO is a poor fit if you need clients next month or have nobody to follow up inbound leads.
How long does MSP SEO take to produce results?
Plan on about 3 months for fixes, pages and tracking, 3 to 9 months for rankings and traffic to climb, and 6 to 12 months before you judge it on contracts. Cortavo signed 8 new clients from organic search in its first year. Competition, market size and your starting point change all of these.
What leads can an MSP expect from SEO?
It depends on your market, services and starting point, so I won't quote a number for your business. For reference, Cortavo had 75 organic-sourced marketing qualified leads in its first year, peaking at 16 to 18 a month, and signed 8 new clients from organic search against a target of 5.
MSP SEO vs Google Ads: which should I choose?
They do different jobs. Google Ads buys clicks today and stops when the budget stops. SEO is slower to start and keeps producing while your pages hold their positions. A sensible order is to run ads first to learn which searches turn into calls, then build SEO pages around those searches. If you can only afford one and need leads this quarter, start with ads.
How do I get my MSP recommended by ChatGPT and AI Overviews?
Nobody can guarantee it. What helps: the same facts about your company everywhere, pages that answer buyer questions in the first two sentences, structured data, reviews, and mentions on sites the assistants already cite. Then track it. At Cortavo, NUOPTIMA tracked 224 mentions across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude and Perplexity, 4x the closest competitor.
How is SEO for MSPs different from general SEO?
Search volumes are small and each client is worth a lot, so a few right visitors beat many wrong ones. Most MSPs sell within a region or an industry, so local and industry pages carry more weight. Buyers are trusting you with their systems, so proof and reviews count for more than clever copy.
What should an MSP prioritize first?
Tracking, so you can tie a lead to a contract in your CRM. Then technical fixes, one page per core service, location pages for the areas you serve and your Google Business Profile. Content and links come after the pages that convert are in place.
How do you measure whether MSP SEO is working?
By contracted revenue from organic and AI search in your CRM first, then qualified leads, then the early signals: average position, page-one keywords and AI mentions. Traffic alone doesn't pay anyone.
